DUSTON PARISH COUNCIL HOLD A WEBINAR TO RAISE AWARNESS FOR TINNITUS

Duston Parish Council is hosting a Zoom call for Tinnitus and hearing loss information.

Linda Mitchell, from Deafconnect, will be hosting an informal talk for anyone wanting to know a little more about these conditions.

It will be about living with hearing loss and tinnitus. It will include things like whom it affects, how it affects them, where they can get help and support.

The webinar is part of the Duston PC's Virtual Health and Wellbeing Pop-Ups that they have been hosting during the past year.

Previous sessions have been on men's health and having a healthy heart.

The idea is to raise awareness for things that people may have just put to the make of their minds.

1 in 5 people in the UK (12 million) has a degree of hearing loss. Whilst 1 in 8 people (7.1 million) has tinnitus.

Tinnitus is the name for hearing noises that are not caused by sounds coming from the outside world.

Although it is not usually a sign of anything serious, it can be difficult to live with.

These webinars aim to put people suffering from this at ease.

Linda Mitchell, who runs the Hard of Hearing Service, said: "Ear care should be taken just as seriously as any other health concern. If you think there is something wrong with your eyes you don’t think twice about going to the optician."

"If you think there is anything not right with your ears and hearing, such as not hearing properly, hearing noises that are not from an external source, pain or discomfort, go and see your GP urgently. If there is anything wrong, the sooner you get it sorted the better your outcome will be."
